Web testing is still a painful topic. Developers try to force the traditional testing pyramid onto real-world applications, write tests just to check a box, and repeat the same mistakes over and over again. This is hardly surprising: developers do not always know how to test properly, while QA engineers do not always understand the real constraints of software development. In the end, both sides suffer.
Tests often become an outcast within the team, even though the real problem is not complexity. It is communication, common sense, and a solid engineering approach. In this talk, we will examine the testing pyramid in practice and show why most teams are not actually writing end-to-end tests, even though they think they are. We will go step by step through unit testing functions, React hooks, and components, working with locators, building meaningful assertions, and avoiding fragile test scenarios.
The main focus will be on practice. Through a large number of examples, we will explore how to test almost anything. Everything will be demonstrated in action, so that after the talk you will leave not only with general principles, but also with concrete approaches you can start applying to real projects the very next day.
